American History Online: Spans more than 500 years of political, military, social, and cultural history, highlighting the important people and events of the American experience. Use tabs to find Biographies, Events& Topics, Primary Sources, Images & Video and Maps & Chart.

**Biography Resource Center** : Award-winning biographies from respected Gale Group sources with related full-text articles from hundreds of periodicals, as well as tens of thousands of images and links to hand-picked web sites.

CQ Encyclopedia of American Government: Based on the CQ Press ready-reference American Government A to Z series, EAG offers thousands of concise, up-to-date explanations of the who, how, and why of American democracy.

SIRS Knowledge Source: SIRS Knowledge Source (SKS) is a comprehensive database portal which is comprised of several distinct reference databases including SIRS Researcher®, SIRS Government Reporter®, SIRS Renaissance®, SKS WebSelect™, SIRS Discoverer®, and Discoverer WebFind™. Updated daily, SKS provides relevant, credible information on social issues, science, history, government, the arts and humanities. Full-text articles and Internet resources are carefully selected from thousands of domestic and international publications and respected organizations.

Grolier Online Passport: With over 55 million words, 50,000 websites, and several hundred thousand magazine articles, finding authoritative, age appropriate and subject-specific information is easy. Users have access to award-winning databases, special features, multimedia presentations, an interactive atlas, dictionaries, and much more. Grolier Online provides resources tailored specifically for teachers and students, all contained within a structured and monitored environment.

World Book Online: Encyclopedia, reference, and multimedia sources. Good starting point for a general overview. Includes links to reviewed web sites.

Literature Resource Center: Offers up-to-date biographical information, overviews, full-text literary criticism and reviews on nearly 130,000 writers in all disciplines, from all time periods and from around the world.

Twayne's Author Series: Comprises 600 full-text titles from the Twayne Literary Masters Series, 200 each from Twayne World, US, and English authors.

Student Resource Center: Broad database offering resources in literature, cultures, science, history, and geography. Full-text articles from reference works, primary sources, and periodicals.

Free Websites:

American Civil War: British site includes articles about major battles, political and military figures, writers, artists, photographers, the role of women, issues.

American Memory: From collections of the Library of Congress, the American Memory consists of written and spoken words, sound recordings, still and moving images, prints, maps, and sheet music that document the American experience. Great source for contemporary and primary documents.

Virtual Civil : Comprehensive images website of photojournalist Mike Lynaugh. Includes original Civil War era photographs, modern photographs of battlefields and re-enactments and links to other resources.
